Russell Brand is wide awake when it comes to looking back at his romance with Katy Perry.
The Get Him to the Greek star recently shared a glimpse into his marriage with the American Idol host from 2010 to 2012, detailing both the ups and downs.
"Some aspects of it were amazing—she's an amazing person," Brand shared during his appearance on the Running Wild With Bear Grylls: The Challenge Aug. 6. "It was kind of incredible to live for a moment in that eye of a cyclone type aspect of fame."
And although there were fireworks between the couple, that moment in time took a toll on their union.
"Aside from my feelings of affection for Katy, it's a time that I remember as being a little bit chaotic and a bit, for me, I'll speak for myself, a little disconnected," he added. "Life humbles us and teaches us ad the journey is not always easy."
Meanwhile, Perry has also noted their marriage was far from a teenage dream.
"I was having great success at 23, 24 and 25 and then I met someone that was interesting and stimulating," she shared about falling in love with her ex-husband in a 2020 interview with 60 Minutes Australia. "It was just like a tornado, it was everything happening at once."
Perry added that she has "always resonated with friction and resistance and challenges."
But after getting engaged in 2009 after three months of dating and tying the knot a year later, it would only be 12 months later before Brand filed for divorce from the Grammy nominee.
"He's a very smart man, a magical man and I was in love with him when I married him," Perry told Vogue in 2013. "Let's just say I haven't heard from him since he texted me saying he was divorcing me December 31, 2011."
But these days, the "ET" singer has moved on, as she has been engaged to Orlando Bloom since 2019 and the two share 2-year-old daughter, Daisy.
